There’s a big misconception about exactly where the Mexican drug cartels are obtaining their weaponry. The Obama administration - and his supporters - would have you believe that 90% of confiscated guns from the Mexican raids are coming from gun shows here in the United States.
William Hoover, who is the assistant director of field operations for the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, claimed in testimony before congress that:
“There is more than enough evidence to indicate that over 90 percent of the firearms that have been recovered in, or interdicted in transport to Mexico, originated from various sources within the United States.”
The ATF sent out notice with the true numbers. the actual percentage of American-made firearms collected from busts in Mexico only comes to 16 percent. Even after the fact(s) came out, people like Senator Diane Fienstein (D - CA) still said:
“It is unacceptable to have 90 percent of the guns that are picked up in Mexico and used to shoot judges, police officers and mayors… come from the United States.”
Not true. It seems that with a little digging, many of the weapons used by the cartels are purchased from FARC terrorists in Colombia. The Russian Mafia supplies them, too, along with assault rifles sold in Africa, Asia and South America - which are made in China. Some more of the confiscated weapons are from Mexican Army deserters who thought the pesos were too good to turn down from the cartels, which were Belgian-made M-16 machine guns.
When the truth shines out like a beacon and is readily available, I can never see why it should be ignored over false info and propaganda just to suit your cause. It’s there and it’s everywhere to read and research. But they want to get your guns and ammo out of your hands and will go to any extremes to do so. So now they’re going after the gun show loophole. And lying about it.
No one seems to interpret the 2nd amendment correctly to me. Here is the 2nd amendment, word for word:
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.
In other words, if an armed group comes to harm your family or force a martial law situation, you have the right to defend yourself with your own weapons. This amendment was written not long after the American War for Independence, where the British armies were considered tyrannical and oppressive. The framers of the Constitution felt that that should never happen again, so it was written in that individuals should be able to defend themselves against it if it ever happened again. That is what the 2nd amendment means (to me and others), not being able to walk around with a loaded gun in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in another shouting, “Hell yeah motherfuckers!”
If guns are strictly controlled or taken away, then you have less means to defend yourselves against tyranny. If our armies are away and our National Guard is spread too thin, then where is the rest of the defense if no one can be readily armed? Or even worse - what if our own army is sent in to pin us down? Just some things to think about.
